Like all Hindu holy towns, Haridwar has more than its fair share
of filth, aggressive beggars and charlatans.
During festivals, especially the Kumbh Mela, Haridwar is packed
to bursting and beyond.
Stampedes are a regular occurrence, with over 50 killed
in 1986, 21 killed in 2003, 5 killed on 2010 and 22 killed on
Nov 2011.
The bridges across the Ganges are the most dangerous spot.
Beware of the motives of sadhus offering one-on-one tutoring.
Watch where you step, cows and their leftovers are abundant.
Watch out for the sometimes brash food stealing monkeys, too.
