The Haridwar Railway Station, station code HW, also known as Haridwar
Junction is the only railway station in the holy city of Haridwar, Uttarakhand,
India. Haridwar Railway Station falls under the Moradabad division of the
Northern Railway zone of the Indian Railways.
History of Haridwar Railway Station
The year 1886 is a landmark year in Haridwar ’s history. This was
the year when the Awadh and Rohilakhand Railway line was extended to Haridwar
through Roorkee to Saharanpur.
Haridwar was first connected with railways, via Laksar, through branch line
in 1886, when the Awadh and Rohilakhand Railway line was extended through
Roorkee to Saharanpur, this was later extended to Dehradun in 1900.
Haridwar Railway Station Code: HW. The station is situated on the
Delhi–Dehradun and Howrah–Dehradun railway lines. One of the main railheads
of the Northern Railways, Haridwar Junction Railway Station is connected
by meter gauge and broad gauge lines. The station is situated on the National
Highway 58 in the Devpura locality of Haridwar. The nearby station of Rishikesh
is connected to Haridwar on a branch line. Towards west, the major railhead
is at Saharanpur (80 km) and going north, the major railhead is at Dehradun
(66 km).
